World Cup hero wins overseas property court case
England 1966 World Cup winner Sir Geoff Hurst has won his case against overseas property agent Mark Cordner and his wife, Sandra.

Cordner sold Sir Geoff and a number of other British investors units on a development in Marbella, Spain which are now "valueless" as Cordner did not possess the proper title for the land.

As we reported earlier, Cordnor has always blamed the developer Michael Hone, who was last seen in Dubai, for misleading him.

A bit thick?

Mr Cordnor's case was built around his lack of intelligence.  His own counsel had said "he was a salesman – you simply had to wind him up and he would be very good at repeating what he was told to best effect".  At one point Cordner described himslef as "not the brightest bulb in the box".

However the court ruled that Cordner had "knowingly" made a series of false representations to persuade the claimants to invest although the judge did concede that the real villian of the piece was Michael Hone, who is still at large.

Sir Geoff invested thousands in the scheme, paying upfront but did not undertake any due diligence.
