US: Top 10 portals – changes at the top

The Hitwise monthly rankings of US real estate sites has recorded the first change in the top four in more than 12 months. Zillow.com is up one position overtaking Yahoo Real Estate for the first time.

Other movers include homes.com which is up one place to eighth, replacing realestate.msn.com and remax.com which climbed two places to tenth, pushing apartments.com off the top 10 list.

The value of being number 1

One of interesting things to note in the table is the dominance of realtor.com, the market leader which attracts almost double the market share of Zillow.com in second place. This is a pattern which is also evident in the UK market where Rightmove gets more than double the traffic of the its nearest competitor.
