US: International sales fall 10%
The National Association of Realtors reports that international sales by US agents fell 10% in the 12 months to May 2009 to an estimated 154,000 properties.
According to the NAR’s 2009 Profile of International Home Buying Activity, 23% of agents made at least on international sale, down from 26% last year.
Canadians made up 17.6% of the buyers, followed by the British (10.5%), Mexicans (9.8%), India (8.5%) and China (5.4%)
The decline in international buyers of US property is likely to be reversed in the near future by an improving global economy, depressed US house prices and a favourable dollar exchange rate.
