Top 50 British holiday destinations for 2010

Flight comparison service, Skyscanner has published a list of the most searched for flight destinations for holidays in 2010 among its seven million monthly UK visitors.

Spanish destinations dominate the list with five locations in the top ten and Malaga, Tenerife and Alicante topping the table.

Orlando is fourth and is one the highest climbers compared to the same period last year, up 12 places.   Travel Editor Sam Baldwin comments: “The [rise in] popularity of Orlando is primarily due to the new Harry Potter theme park opening in the spring. Other big movers include Johannesburg and Cape Town as the World Cup is just around the corner”.

Dalaman (Turkey), Faro (Portugal), New York (USA) and Geneva (Switzerland) were the only other non-Spanish locations to make the top 10. Paris and Nice are the only airports in France making the top 50, presumably because most English holiday makers take the ferry when travelling to Northern France.

The data was collected in the final quarter of 2009 for holidays being planned in 2010 so provides an interesting insight into where Brits plan to spend their holidays this year. Hopefully a good number of them will go onto to purchase holiday homes.
