Rightmove traffic down 29.5 per cent year-on-year
Rightmove bashing has become a bit of media sport in recent weeks. Our survey of overseas agents last week was the latest in long line of press articles. See also here, here and here.

The latest ComScore figures for August are unlikely to halt the media tide. They show traffic has declined 29.5% between August 2007 and August 2008 compared to a real estate category average of 18.5%. If that wasn’t enough, UBS just downgraded their shares from “neutral” to “sell” .

There is better news for FindaProperty.com which bucked the trend, declining only 10.4% year-on-year, significantly beating the category average. According to the ComScore figures, the recently formed Digital Property Group, which incorporates FindaProperty.com, Primelocation.com, FindaNewHome.com and HomesandProperty.co.uk, now has a combined UK reach of 2.045 million monthly unique users, only 355,000 behind Rightmove in top position. Twelve months ago the gap was 1.09 million visitors.

FindaProperty.com and Primelocation.com ranked 1st and 2nd respectively and HomesandProperty.co.uk came in at number 15 in our top 25 overseas property portal rankings. These portals could be worth considering for those looking for an alternative to Rightmove.

The biggest winner was Nestoria posting a 159.9% year-on-year rise. They don’t list overseas property but they have recently launched a Spanish property portal with a similar business model and marketing approach. Agents with property to sell in Spain can list property for free here.
