*New Chinese overseas portal claims 100,000 visitors since launch
LuckyWu.com, a business that claims to be the first dedicated overseas property portal for the Chinese buyer market has racked up 100,000 visitors in its first six weeks of trading according to the company’s managing director.

Launched on 15th September, the portal which translates as “lucky house” in English lists just over 1000 properties mainly from the UK but with a few hundred in the US and Caribbean.

International MD Sherry Madera believes the company has found a gap in the market.

“When we looked at the property portal market in China the big players do a great job in the domestic market but their international listings are generally old and out of date.  Our system allows agents and developers to update their listings via their XML feeds”.

Cheap Chinese Translation

LuckyWu.com have a team of translators in Beijing and Shanghai that manually translate short and long property descriptions as part of their standard package price which is £100 per month for up to 500 properties.

Madera says most of the traffic to date has come direct rather than through search engines.

“We have partnerships with some of the biggest property shows in mainline China which attract over 100,000 visitors.  We also have deals with existing domestic portals that link to us and promote us editorially”.

Comment

The figure of 100,000 is large claim for such a young portal.  However, Luckywu.com does seem to have the advantage of first mover advantage in a market that is many times larger than the English language equivalent.

With such fledgling internet businesses, it is difficult to predict whether they will be successful but for £100 a month, the risk of testing the site is relatively low.
