May deadline looms for new APITS portal
Consumer marketing for the new A Place in the Sun property portal will begin when the new series airs in May, just weeks after its trade launch, giving the Brooklands Group and Channel 4 joint venture little time to iron out teething problems. The Channel 4 series, which according to Publishing Director Andy Bridge gets 3 million viewers an episode, will promote the online editorial content that is expected to form a large part of the new portal.

The deadlines are tight for the new portal which will only officially launch to the trade at A Place in the Sun Live on 25th to 27th April. Brooklands Group is still looking for four staff to help with content and sales, although the senior management team is in place. Former Daily Mail Property Editor Nigel Lewis heads up the new online content team, while former AOL Director Niall McOnegal takes overall charge of the portal from a commercial perspective.

As well as an extensive editorial section, the site is expected to feature thousands of properties for sale across the globe. Brooklands Group has offered a number of current magazine advertisers and exhibitors free trials to help populate the site. After the free trial, the site will follow a pay-to-list business model and, according to Andy, will be “competitively priced”.

The new website will also feature state-of-the-art mapping and multi-layer search functionality. It has been in the pipeline for some time and its launch has been one of the worst kept secrets in the overseas property industry.
