*ICREA hints at FIABCI merger
The two largest networking organisations in international residential real estate have formed an alliance with discussions “ongoing” on the possibility of a full merger.

ICREA (International Consortium of Real Estate Associations), which helps members of national associations network internationally has signed a collaborative alliance with FIABCI, The International Real Estate Federation.

According to ICREA CEO Thijis Stoffer, the merger makes sense as both organisations share the same objective of facilitating international co-operation in international real estate but approach the task in different ways.

“ICREA derives most of its revenue from national associations whereas FIABCI charge individuals. Our strengths lie in our online networking facilities whereas FIABCI’s are more in face-to-face meetings,” Stoffer told Global edge.

Following the announcement, ICREA members will be able to attend FIABCI events which include the annual FIABCI World Congress and numerous regional conferences.  FIABCI members will have access to ICREA’s online networking facility.

The two organisations will also take a more co-ordinated approach to education and lobbying.  At present ICREA run the TRC which trains agents on how to carry out international business.  FIABCI have a similar qualificatioin the FIABCI certificate.

As part of the alliance former ICREA Chair Peter Bolton King has been to represent ICREA on the FIABCI Board and FIABCI World President Alex Romanenko will have a seat on the ICREA Board.

Discussing the possibility of permanent merger Stoffer told Global edge that discussions were “ongoing”.

“We are now in bed but not yet married” he said.
