Homebuyer to launch property portal
Homebuyer Events, organisers of the UK’s largest property exhibition, The Property Investor Show, are to make their first move into the property portal market according to Managing Director, Nick Clarke. Speaking exclusively to Globaledge.co.uk at SIMA in Madrid, Clarke said: “The new portal will have a pure investment focus but the exact content and business model is yet to be decided.”

Clarke has employed former General Manager of TNT Magazine, Rob Stross, to head up the project. Stross takes control of the commercial development of the new venture and has an “open brief”, according to Clarke.

Clarke believes that is “doesn’t really matter what the competition does” as Homebuyer Events have a significant edge over any potential rivals. These advantages include strong brand recognition from both the industry and investors, a great name and URL and large trade and consumer databases. Each year, they spend a seven-figure sum on promoting their shows (and the www.propertyinvestor.co.uk URL), mainly in the press and on outdoor media.

In May 2007, Homebuyer Events Ltd was acquired by AIM-listed Expomedia Group in a deal worth up to £7.3 million upfront and up to £16 million in total, depending on performance targets. They currently run four exhibitions each year, The Property Investor Show in London and Birmingham, The Homebuyer & Property Investor Show in London and the Property Investor & Homebuyer Show in Manchester.
