Google Street View hits Spain
Google’s street view program, which allows users to remotely view streets and properties in 360 degrees, has been rolled out across 80% of Spain.
Areas covered include popular overseas property destinations such as Costa del Sol, Costa Blanca and Costa Calida. The addition of Google Street View to Google maps is a useful feature for purchasers of overseas property and is expensive for competitors to copy. Google used camera’s mounted on tricycles to cover hard to access areas, as well as on its usual Google Street View vans, to record all the footage.
Interestingly, Google Maps in Spain contains a
Real Estate option under the More button on the main navigation. The site currently lacks properties but as it begins to scale up this service, it represents a significant threat to property portals covering Spain.
Expect casualties.
