Interesting, though the source article is a little suspect as there are no 2011 Winter Olympics taking place in Tatras - in fact, there are no 2011 Winter Olympics at all. I think to a degree this bears out one of Barbara's points, that the journalistic integrity behind some of the "facts" that are passed around the industry, particularly on the web, is somewhat questionable. Perhaps the Liam chap who wrote the article made a genuine mistake - or maybe he just lifted this nugget from some other misinformed individual without bothering to question or verify it.

Below is the response i made to the article on the mail site..its still awaiting moderation... hopefully it will be allowed there..if not maybe here its quite funny reading this article, when will so called property experts realise that bargains do not exist in the world, there are always reasons… how many foreign buyers that followed the words of wisdom in investing in cheaper foreign destinations as summer vacation spots in most of those countries suggested now find themselves minus the dosh and minus the property as the legalities of buying, construction, and ownership were not followed…bet your life their are still thousands of dis inherited locals in all those countries that will be working their way through courts in order to reclaim confiscated properties of the previous regimes… rent… an apartment or whatever… is my advice and do it late booking style.. because you never know what is down the road … this sort of advice based on good investing is based on fools gold mentality… its been done in Spain..here in Italy we are seeing thousands being duped in Calabrian investment properties…due to article like this… often sponsored by the people selling …with no real concern about establishing facts… even down to the case in Calabria of a famous ital/uk based law firm duping everyone into signing on the dotted line… since banned from practice in the UK and hiding out in Sicily.. people like this law firm are used by parers like the mail as property experts along with many other infamous yet trusted in the UK estate agent experts… who write their so called opinions which in fact are based on trying to sell daft developments to daft people that still think property sellers abroad are stupid enough to sell cheap property because they don’t realise the value… they sell cheap because everything about the thing is cheap due to lack of planning, lack of cement and lack of actual completion within the next several years…hoping that before that time the authorities will have ordered the demolition first… sorry but we have seen this in such an apparent way here in Abruzzo where people were told there incredible bargains to be had… houses starting at euro 20,000, well those bargains were all situated along the fault line that bisects Italy north south to the west of the Apennines… and whilst people in the provinces bordering the Adriatic side of Abruzzo are helping to house still 20,000 homeless from L,Aquila, because this area doesn’t get quakes many foreigners that got duped into the bargain mentality of buying cheap because they were the first to discover a new area now have nothing left… ii mean if it was such a wonderful place and its just a 40 minute drive from Rome you think the Romans wouldn’t have bought up everything… no they drive through L’Aquila under the Gran Sasso for another 30 minutes pay more and feel pretty secure in the fact that the place wont fall down around them.Apart from the fact that you can guarantee that the area of L’Aquila will always feature as the coldest winter area of Italy and the most stifling humid area in the summer. Okay you say another estate agent sales talk… but this time its patently obvious that events are providing answers for all to see. As far as Calabria a google search on forums in Calabria will provide you with thousands of details of what’s going wrong, a google search on Forums in most of the Countries mentioned in the article will again show many people with common cause having lost everything… to my mind at least a better way of researching than following in general sponsored advice (am not saying this article is).. with no research just lifting sales blurbs.. we used to get calls from the UK all the time from travel writers that wrote about about this area from a desk in London taking a sample of views from various agencies selling here and creating an article… needless to say they don’t call us up much nowadays, we refused to be in the same articles as some of the main renowned agencies… doubt this will be published in full… but its as close to the truth as you will be likely to get on this whole business…
