EU directive could add to developers' costs

EU directive could add to developers' costs
Landlord Assist is reporting that new legislation from the EU could require all properties across the region to make “reasonable adjustments” to allow people with disabilities to occupy them regardless of whether the properties are let to such tenants or not.

In a worst case scenario, Landlord Assist say the proposals will mean that let homes would need entrance ramps, wide doors, grab rails, stair lifts, signs in Braille, redesigned bathrooms and kitchens and even re-positioned electrical sockets.

The legislation could potentially force developers across the EU to make expensive changes to units built for holiday home use. If laws to such effect are passed, buyers would become more reticient to invest in properties which could not be rented without expensive development work.

We will bring you more on this story in the next few days.
