Designing your property website for Google
The principles of great web design and effective search engine optimisation can often conflict. A well-designed property website is clean and uncluttered and will use imagery to inspire potential buyers to take action.
A well-optimised site is not the same thing. In fact, it can be the direct opposite, as Google likes text-rich sites with lots of links. This
video takes an ironic look at how the Google homepage would look if Google designed its own page to rank well on its search engine. It illustrates some of the difficult trade-offs you need to make. It is also an example of a great viral promotion that has created lots of links and traffic for its creator.
Next week, we will be recording an online video to demonstrate how to design a high-quality, well-optimised website that converts to lead. We’ll use real-life examples of how it should and should not be done. If you’d like access to this as soon as it becomes available please

Your absolutely right about Web Design and Google Optimisation being a trade off. Personally I design the site first so it's aesthetically pleasing and functional and then weave the Google magic afterwards. This does sometimes leave a compromise to the design but is a neccessary evil.
Of course what you do on the page is only half the story and for a really good Google Ranking you have to do a whole lot more.
